Young Song, a Korean-Canadian artist, draws inspiration from nature, transforming its rhythms and subtleties into evocative works of art. After some years in Vancouver, he settled in Creston fourteen years ago, where the changing seasons, flowing water, and birdsong continue to shape his creative process.
“Dialogue” serves as the central theme of this exhibition, reflecting Song’s evolving relationship with solitude and connection. For over a decade, he lived in near seclusion, immersing himself in the stillness of nature. During this time, his artistic practice became an intimate conversation with the landscape, guided by quiet observation and introspection. Gradually, his confidence grew, and he sought to extend this dialogue beyond nature—to people, community, and shared experience.
This exhibition, his first in Creston, marks a turning point. Through abstract forms and subtle colour palettes, Song explores the delicate interplay of human relationships—how we meet, part, misunderstand, reflect, and grow. His compositions suggest the unspoken conversations between presence and absence, words and silence. Contrasting elements—black squares against soft tones, restrained geometry within fluid space—embody the tension but also the harmony of communication.
Song’s work also meditates on the connection between people and the natural world. His pared-down aesthetic, using black, white, red, and blue, reflects emotional landscapes—what he calls “landscapes of the mind.” These visual dialogues invite viewers to contemplate their own inner reflections and interactions with others.
Through this exhibition, Young Song encourages us to pause, listen, and engage in a quiet exchange—both with his art and within ourselves.
